Michelle and Chris Lang’s Vision: Helping Veterans Find the Resources They Deserve
When Michelle Lang first came to Victor + Valor®, she was feeling lost. Despite her deep passion for helping veterans, Michelle wasn’t sure exactly what direction her nonprofit should take. The idea of Veteran Help Point emerged from her personal experience—helping her husband, Chris, a veteran who was transitioning out of the Army, navigate the complex landscape of veterans' resources and medical care.
As Michelle helped Chris find the support he needed, she realized there was a profound gap in how veterans were able to access the resources available to them. The concept for Veteran Help Point began as a one-stop online resource that would allow veterans and their families to easily locate resources anywhere in the U.S. This idea came from Michelle’s understanding of the need—the need to connect veterans with the right resources at the right time.
However, as Michelle worked more closely with her community, she began to see a new layer of need—rural veterans and their families. Rural areas often face significant barriers to healthcare, community support, and access to vital resources. This led to a profound realization that would transform the direction of her work.
The Challenges: Finding the Focus and Reach
When Michelle approached Victor + Valor®, Veteran Help Point had the potential to help so many veterans, but it lacked the clarity and focus to make the broadest impact. Michelle faced several challenges:
Rebranding and Refining the Mission: Veteran Health Point was more than just an online resource; Michelle wanted to serve rural veterans who often went overlooked, offering not only resources but also community and connection. The issue was that the vision needed refinement, and the message wasn’t clear enough to reach the right audience effectively.
Limited Awareness: Michelle knew the importance of raising awareness about the issues rural veterans face, but she wasn’t sure how to spread that message or build a sustainable community around it.
Event Execution: Michelle had an idea for a local event in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to honor veterans, but she didn’t know how to organize it, what resources to pull together, or how to fundraise effectively.
What Michelle lacked was a clear plan, the right tools, and the guidance to turn her idea into a tangible, sustainable nonprofit that could make a real difference for veterans, especially in rural areas.
Victor + Valor® Steps In: Helping Michelle Find Her True Purpose
When Michelle reached out to Victor + Valor®, we saw the immense potential in her mission and understood the challenges she faced. Our team worked closely with Michelle to help refine her vision and give Veteran Help Point a clearer, more focused purpose. Together, we rebranded the nonprofit to become Operation Honor Rural Salute™, shifting its focus to serve rural veterans across the country.
Here’s how Victor + Valor® helped Michelle:
Rebranding the Nonprofit: We helped Michelle reframe the core message of Veteran Help Point, transforming it into Operation Honor Rural Salute™. The new name captured the essence of what Michelle was truly passionate about—honoring rural veterans and connecting them with the resources they deserve.
Event Planning and Execution: We worked with Michelle to organize and execute her vision for a two-day event in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. This event wasn’t just about raising funds—it was about raising awareness, honoring veterans, and bringing the community together. The event became a pivotal moment for Operation Honor Rural Salute™, drawing local attention and generating support for veterans in the area.
Fundraising and Awareness: Beyond the event, we helped Michelle create a fundraising strategy that allowed her to generate the resources needed to support her growing nonprofit. We focused on awareness campaigns, donation portals, and local partnerships, ensuring that her cause would not only be heard but also financially supported.
Creating a National Impact: As the 2024 event concluded, Michelle was inspired to expand her vision beyond Lancaster. In Q3 2024, Operation Honor Rural Salute™ launched its online community—a hub for veterans of all ages, where they could connect with resources, share experiences, and receive support. This online platform became the foundation for a nationwide initiative to serve veterans across the U.S.
The Future: Expanding Reach and Creating National Events
As 2025 approaches, the future of Operation Honor Rural Salute™ looks brighter than ever. With the success of the Lancaster event and the launch of the online community, the nonprofit is now on track to expand nationally. Operation Honor Rural Salute™ is planning to host more events across the United States, honoring veterans and giving them the resources they need, wherever they are.
The future is not just about expanding the events; it’s about amplifying the voice of rural veterans, raising awareness at a national level, and building sustainable partnerships with local vendors and other organizations that serve veterans.
Michelle is also exploring ways to create exclusive merchandise to help fund future events, as well as to provide a sense of pride to veterans who attend these events and belong to the online community.
The Ongoing Partnership: Always Ready to Pivot and Restart
At Victor + Valor®, we know that life doesn’t always go as planned—especially for military families and veterans. That’s why our partnership with Operation Honor Rural Salute™ is not a one-time deal. We’re always ready to pivot, restart, and adapt when the time comes.
