Spouses as Entrepreneurs: Supporting the Backbone of Military Families

Writer's picture: Ali CraigAli Craig

Military spouses are often described as the backbone of military families. They are the unsung heroes who maintain stability in households, manage family life during deployments, and adapt to the ever-changing nature of military service. But beyond their unwavering support for their service member, many military spouses are also trailblazing entrepreneurs who are redefining what it means to build a career while serving their families.

At Victor + Valor®, we believe in the power and potential of military spouses as entrepreneurs. Through our support and resources, we aim to empower spouses to launch, grow, and scale businesses that align with their passions and goals. We are proud to highlight three incredible military spouses—Michelle Lang, Kayla Pattle, and Peighton Woodard—who have not only navigated the challenges of military life but have turned their entrepreneurial dreams into reality.

Michelle Lang: Founder of Operation Honor Rural Salute

Michelle Lang, a military spouse and the founder of Operation Honor Rural Salute, is an inspiring example of how military spouses are using their entrepreneurial spirit to create meaningful change. Michelle's work centers around supporting rural veterans, a community often overlooked and underserved. As a wife of a special operations service member, Michelle deeply understands the unique challenges military families face, and she has channeled this understanding into her mission to serve veterans in rural areas.

Through Operation Honor Rural Salute, Michelle has built a nonprofit organization that provides essential resources and support to veterans who live in remote areas. The organization connects veterans with a network of care and offers programs that focus on mental health, job placement, and community integration. Michelle’s entrepreneurial journey was fueled by her personal experience and desire to create a lasting impact on the veterans who served this country, proving that military spouses can not only support their families but also serve others through innovative business solutions.

Michelle’s work with Operation Honor Rural Salute is an example of how military spouses are leveraging their creativity and compassion to meet the needs of their communities, making a profound impact on the lives of rural veterans and their families.

Kayla Pattle: Founder of CreatHERly

Kayla Pattle, the founder of CreatHERly, is another example of a military spouse using her entrepreneurial expertise to create a supportive space for other women in business. CreatHERly is a platform dedicated to helping women entrepreneurs—especially those from military families—grow their businesses by providing resources, mentorship, and community.

Kayla’s passion for supporting female entrepreneurs was ignited by her own experience as a military spouse. Like many military wives, Kayla faced the challenges of frequent moves, unpredictable schedules, and the need for flexibility in her career. But instead of seeing these challenges as roadblocks, she embraced them and turned them into opportunities. With CreatHERly, Kayla created a safe and inclusive space for women to connect, collaborate, and find the resources they need to thrive.

Through CreatHERly, Kayla has not only supported military spouses in launching their businesses but has also cultivated a community where women can uplift one another. Her work demonstrates how military spouses are redefining what it means to be a business owner—proving that with the right support, resources, and community, they can turn their entrepreneurial dreams into reality.

Peighton Woodard: Founder of Luna Leaf Wellness

Peighton Woodard, founder of Luna Leaf Wellness, is a shining example of how military spouses are not only successful entrepreneurs but also wellness advocates. Peighton’s journey began when she recognized the need for a wellness platform that could offer resources tailored to the needs of military families. As a military spouse herself, Peighton understood the unique challenges of balancing a healthy lifestyle with the demands of military life, and she was determined to create a solution.

Luna Leaf Wellness is an app designed to help women, especially military spouses, improve their overall wellness by providing access to a variety of holistic health resources, expert advice, and a supportive community. Peighton’s app blends lifestyle medicine with scientific research to offer practical solutions for mental, emotional, and physical well-being, making it easier for military spouses to take care of themselves while managing the challenges of their daily lives.

Peighton’s entrepreneurial journey highlights the strength and resilience of military spouses. She saw a gap in the market and created a platform that not only meets the needs of military families but also empowers them to prioritize their health and wellness. Through Luna Leaf Wellness, Peighton has demonstrated that military spouses can thrive as entrepreneurs and bring much-needed resources to their communities.
